  • What if I get offered a job when I’m in the US?

    As part of our agreement you commit to completing the full three months of the placement and returning to New Zealand within two months to share your insights. As long as you meet this requirement it is your perogative to take up any offers you receive. You will need to consider visa and other requirements.

  • Can I take a holiday before or after the placement?

    Yes, as long as this doesn’t affect your visa requirements and ability to complete the full three months of the placement and return to New Zealand within two months to share your insights.

  • Can I take my partner / kids with me?

    Yes. You will need to sort out any visa, health insurance and other requirements. You will also be responsible for travel and associated costs and any additional accommodation costs.

  • What if there is an emergency back home while I am away?

    We will make provision for emergeny travel back to New Zealand if this is required.

  • What if I get sick while I am away?

    We will cover health insurance costs and will make provision for emergency travel back to New Zealand if this is required.

  • Will I be placed with others?

    There is potential for this to happen. Some companies may take more than one person. It depends on their needs and the mix of skills and experiences available.

  • I’m not currently based in New Zealand, am I still eligible?

    Yes. As long as you are Māori and meet the criteria. Also that you agree to return to New Zealand within two months of your placement to share your insights.

  • What preparation is involved before I go on placement?

    We will work with you to make sure you are super-prepared to take up the full opportunity of your placement. This will involve meetings with the Te Ara Pōtiki team and key stakeholders. It may also involve some workshops.

  • Will I have any reporting requirements during the programme?

    This will be agreed with your US placement company. However, you will also have regular catch-ups with the Te Ara Pōtiki team to check in on how things are going.

  • What if I decide I don’t want to go any further in the agrifood space after placement?

    That is totally fine. We want you to grow and learn as a result of this experience and share your insights upon your return. We would also want you to stay part of our network and alumni. There are many ways to serve our people.

  • What if I miss out this time, will there be other programmes?

    Absolutely. We also hope over time to offer more placement opportunities and potentially in other countries. Stay in touch and keep applying.
